The world as we know it

NASA Not about science anymore

It is really disappointing when employees of a reputable scientific institution like NASA lowers itself to data manipulation to fit an unproven theory.  It is even more disappointing when that institution muddies the reputation of the whole organisation for the sake of protecting these few reckless, selfish  individuals.

This is the situation with the ongoing scientific debacle associated with the global warming theory, the cooling world and the climategate revelations. As NASA employees continue to be exposed as manipulating the climate data then the science world is watching to see what those in charge do.

Will NASA and the University of East Anglia and Penn State University go down in history in infamy as institutions that didn’t have the credibility, transparency and accountability to ensure science within their confines was factual, open to audit and debate or will these ‘businesses’ simply become bywords for whitewashing and political expediency.

Well, condemning the entire agency because Hansen et al hijacked the mission isn’t entirely fair. Let’s see if the next interplanetary mission is a raging disaster or not. If it is, then get out the torches and pitchforks.

No Im not condemning the entire agency. I think there is a lot of fine science and scientists there. My comment is the same as applies to UEA, Penn etc and that is if the establishment in those places doesn’t deal with the Climategate fiasco in a fair and reasonable way then this action by the establishment undermines the reputation of the whole place.

Is BoM under David Jones any better?

    • twawki says:

Not at all – when you look at the manipulation of raw data in many places over Australia then there are lots of similarities to climate gate.

  3. fuf says:

These are some strong allegations. Care to proof the falsification of data by NASA?

  4. Ever since Richard Feynman’s report and later, a SECOND spacecraft crashing for essentially the same reasons: incompetence and arrogance of NASA management, I have not been able to trust that agency one tiny little bit.
All this is not surprising at all.

What do you think?

We fight not to enslave, but to set a country free, and to make room upon the earth for honest men to live in. Thomas Paine

Above all, we must realize that no arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. RONALD REAGAN,
My definition of a free society is a society where it is safe to be unpopular. Adlai E. Stevenson Jr
If you want to be free, there is but one way; it is to guarantee an equally full measure of liberty to all your neighbors. There is no other. Carl Schurz
The First Amendment is often inconvenient. But that is besides the point. Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech. Justice Anthony Kennedy
Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one’s own person is its ultimate reward. Patricia Sampson
Many politicians are in the habit of laying it down as a self-evident proposition that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim. Thomas Macaulay
The law will never make men free, it is men that have to make the law free. Henry David Thoreau
If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter. George Washington
