An un-realclimate for the manipulation of science

The role of the website RC (Real climate), run by Michael Mann and NASA’s Gavin Schmidt (NASA’s James Hansen’s right hand man) is disclosed in the leaked emails as a tool to manipulate public perception on the issue of climate change. Michael Mann, a Penn State employee whose claim to fame is the now discredited and fraudulent hockey stick that Al Gore used in an Inconvenient Truth to try and prove man made global warming. In the leaked emails RC’s role is clarified;

Quote “Anyway, I wanted you guys to know that you’re free to use RC in any way you think would be helpful. Gavin and I are going to be careful about what comments we screen through, and we’ll be very careful to answer any questions that come up to any extent we can. On the other hand, you might want to visit the thread and post replies yourself. We can hold comments up in the queue and contact you about whether or not you think they should be screened through or not, and if so, any comments you’d like us to include..”

and…..

“The scientific community would come down on me in no uncertain terms if I said the world had cooled from 1998. OK it has but it is only 7 years of data and it isn’t statistically significant.”

It has been said that regards Real Climate that “Essentially the site exists to promote global warming alarm-ism and attack anyone who does not agree with their declaration of doomsday (proven of course by their own computer climate models) and the need for government intervention against the life supporting, atmospheric trace gas, carbon dioxide.”

Real Climate  is owned by EMS (Environmental Media Services) which Activist Cash says “spoon-feeds the news media sensationalized stories, based on questionable science” EMS was founded in 1994 by Arlie Schardt, a former journalist and former communications director for Al Gore’s 2000 Presidential campaign, and former head of the Environmental Defense Fund during the 1970s. EMS is closely allied with Fenton Communications  “the largest public interest communications firm in the [United States]”, which specializes in providing public relations for nonprofit organizations dealing with public policy issues. The Washington branch of Fenton shares the same address as EMS. Run by David Fenton, using leftist activism as big business and anti-consumer activism. So what we see is a small clique of very influential people!

Christopher Booker said it best when he revealed how Real Climate have pushed flawed theories on global warming for decades, now threaten to take us back to the Dark Ages. Yet we have our national leaders rushing to an ‘emergency summit‘ on climate change in Copenhagen simply because they chose to listen to the lies of a small group at RC whilst ignoring all dissenting expert scientific opinion. Lets hope they wake up and see common sense before its too late – too late for their career’s that is! and so the fear and loathing can be over.
