Taking action

Today I received a response from Mr Jack Herman at the Australian Press Council (Friday 27th November 2009).

Quote 1; “Given that Google News shows several thousand news reports on the incident, and that there has been detailed coverage of it in the ABC and in other news outlets, I cannot see how the readers of Fairfax papers would be unaware of the incident. Or the implications.”

So Mr Herman is saying a news outlet CAN BE COMPLETELY BIASED as long as people can get an alternative opinion elsewhere. Mr Herman also ignores that some people only get their news from Fairfax.

Quote 2; “There is plenty of evidence to suggest that the Fairfax press provides plenty of opportunities for readers with contrary views on climate change to have their say, in letters and opinion pieces. The particular concerns you have with the reporting of the Hadley Climate Centre emails do not, to me appear to be of such a nature as to warrant the processing of a complaint about it.” Jack R Herman

In other words Fairfax can print what they want and it is up to the readers to try and educate other readers as to the facts by writing letters to Fairfax. And that’s only if their responses actually get published. What an appalling decision by Mr Herman.

Quote 3  “The Council does not expect that newspapers recapitulate every incident in such a debate.“

No but Fairfax was pretty much ignoring all incidents of an incident, ignoring the incident itself altogether. The onus is now on me/us to provide the Council with actual details …. more to come

In what is highly relevant information to both the Australian public and senators, especially as they discuss the ETS, Fairfax news has been subversive in failing to adequately inform the Australian public over the last 3 days of news that is being described as the greatest scientific scandal of all time. On Friday the 20th November 2009 leaked emails from Hadley Climate Centre revealed corruption, coercion and the manipulation of data to fabricate the global warming alarmism. Yet appallingly Fairfax have all but ignored the events except in some opinion pieces.The public would rightly feel totally disenfranchised with this abuse of power by a business that claims to have fair press, yet reality shows they do anything but. In what should have been front page news but instead was basically ignored. It is another reason why the MSM (main stream media) are increasingly pathetically irrelevant. I have today complained to the Australian Press Council for their biased reporting (copy below). I have also complained to Fairfax Media – as follows;

Taking action

I will also be linking it wherever I can so people can see for themselves what sort of publication Fairfax is. By your selective reporting you do your industry a gross dis-service and only have yourselves to blame for why people are becoming totally disenfranchised with the main stream media.

Complaint details:	My complaint is over the selective reporting of the Fairfax media group. An audit of their news over recent years would easily show their ongoing biased reporting of global warming, continually posting opinionated warmist propaganda as fact and ignoring independent scientific opinion. They also willfully exclude most science that contradicts their pro warmist position. On Friday the 20th November 2009 thousands of emails and files were leaked from the Hadley Climate Center exposing the global warming religion as manipulated junk science. Yet in what is starting to be describe as the biggest scientific crime in history Fairfax have been largely silent on the issue. As at this time with the ETS being voted on by our Senators there are serious issues of possible collusion between Fairfax and the Australian Labor Party involving suppression of relevant information that would affect both public opinion and political process at this time. As such it is in the interests of the Australian public that the Press Council commences immediate action against Fairfax to ensure open, transparent and fair reporting. As the Press Council has been unwilling to take any action on these issues before then I would assume that any reticence by them at this time would be evidence against them in a possible application to the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
